Mauser K98k

They separated the barreled action from the stock and then cut the stock where one of the bands would cover the repair when glued back together in the USA. They were cut so that they would fit into a standard Duffle Bag for the trip home.

My 37 Sauer shooter. My bring back is also a 37 Sauer less that 10,000 serial numbers off this one.

This one is basically a barrelled action with period correct stamped mismatched parts. The mid war bolt head spaced nicely. The tolerances they had year to year, manufacturer to manufacturer were amazing.

The wood stock was just cut into two parts that would fit into a dufflebag. The cut and repair would be hidden by the band when the stocks was glued back together and reassembled once the gun and GI made it home.

Notice Mosins and Japanese Arisakas have taken a big jump in price lately also. Always recall the Type 99 in 7.7 my buddy scored for $25 back in 1972 from our local LGS. Old box that contained milsurps and guns that had seen better days.

Here are some of my Mauser rifles. The 98 Mauser is by far the best rifle ever manufactured, in my opinion.

Were the K98's ever bargain basement priced like the Mosin Nagants?

In 1960 something, my BIL needed a cheap deer rifle, so we went to Ducket's Army Store on Alabama St in downtown Atlanta. New, unissued late war 98k's full of cosmoline were standing on their muzzles in a wooden barrel. Your choice- $29.95. We picked one, went home, cut the forend off and had a local smith install a Williams sight. Fast forward 40 odd years and I stumbled upon the front band and spring and the piece of forend with the bayonet lug in a box of junk parts I had. They brought around $50 on ebay! :D I dunno where the handguard went.
