The XDs 4.0 in 9MM.

This gun makes a lot of sense to me - a 4" barreled, single stack 9MM. With the grip extension on the mag you have 9+1 rounds; without the extension it is 7+1. The grip is less than 1 inch wide.

I think it might be a great nightstand gun for my wife. Five more rounds than her 3" M60 with (probably) a similar reach & a similar "just pull the trigger" manual of arms. Nancy has smaller hands than me; fat gripped double-stack pistols aren't all that easy for her to manipulate. My M&P9 doesn't fit her hand all that well. She can make do, but it isn't ideal. Most other single stack 9MM pistols have a short 3" (or there about) barrel length, & are a little more snappy in recoil. Shorter barreled guns aren't comfortable for her to shoot.

I'm planning on taking a good look at these once I recover from my gun buying frenzy over the last few months. Selling my M&P could be an option too; it's really a range gun that I don't carry. Not that I want to sell it; but there are so many guns & so liitle money...

I wish S&W would consider an M&P pistol like this - I'd rather if it didn't have a grip safety. Anyone at S&W listening?

I have an XD service model, 4" barrel grip safety nice balance, my wife handles it well. Difference is the double stack 16 round mags! It's my nightstand weapon so I never intended to carry it

I have the M&P9 4" with the 17 round mags; while my wife can handle it, it is still a reach & she has to change her grip to manipulate the mag release. Nothing wrong with a high capacity mag except the extra girth it adds to the grip. To me, the more narrow grip makes sense in this situation. I can't imagine her needing 17 rounds of ammunition in our bedroom without pausing for a reload; the extra control & comfort a smaller grip affords from a 9 round mag could be a real positive.

Up till now, I believe Kahr is the only manufacturer that has offered a single stack grip & 4" barrel in a 9MM (there may be others). I think it's a good platform for anyone with smaller hands that doesn't want or need a short barrel for whatever reason as opposed to the fairly universal standard of a double stack magazine in anything over a 3-1/2" barrel. Glad to see SA offer it; I hope S&W does also.

my XDS... still at Springfield.... big recall on them last fall.... apparently some would "shoot on their own"
