I have one that I purchased new in the mid to late eighties that I am going to sell, How can I tell if it is a Lou Horton special as I do not want to mislead anyone in the upcoming ad ?
FWIW, it is a k frame round butt if that is any help

Your Model 29-3 sounds like a "44 Combat Magnum" that was made for Lew Horton in 1985 (200 were made). It featured a K-frame round butt, combat stocks made of Goncalo alves, 3-inch barrel, bright blue finish, white outline rear sight and red ramp front sight. At least one I know of has serial number ABL29XX.

There must have been a wide range of serial numbers used on these. I know there weren't very many made but mine is SN/ ALB53XX.

Sorry I can't help you with the current value of your gun, but my 3in 029 was one of the few guns I wish I'd never sold (traded for a 6in back in 1986). I love the older 3 inch 44 mags.

Doc, this one has all those features with a SN of ALC02XX. Now to figure what is a fair price, if you guys think it is a Lou Horton model.
thanks for the help

I am sure it is a Lew Horton "44 Combat Magnum". The Standard Catalog of S&W (published in 2006) shows a price of $700 for a gun that is as new in box. You can use this price as a reference point and go from there.

Here is ALB 9348. I picked it up about a year ago. It is unfired but no box.

bravastar1... Not to argue or seem like a troll, but just of of my own curiosity..... How do you determine it is unfired? Someone appears to have incorrectly mangled the screws and ding the side plate upon dis-assembly/re-assembly.
That being said, that alone is not indicative of it being fired.
But I assure you it has been incorrectly taken apart and at minimum dry fired according to the turn line.
I hear that phrase "Unfired" and can't help but remember that old saying... "Buy the gun, not the story"

If I offended you it wasn't the intent.

Regards,
Steve

Bravastar, that is the exactly like the one I own, except I do have the box etc. Look for it soon on the sale section. Mine has been fired aboout 50 times I would guess
thanks everyone for the help
