Her name is Lorelei.

She's 3 1/2 years old. She's half Siamese; hence the pretty blue eyes.

Some of you will remember that I lost my 15 year old calico cat, Kenzie, not too long ago.

For the first time in 27 years, I didn't have a cat in my home.

A house without a cat is...just a house. And awfully empty feeling, too.

I got her from some people who are moving, and can't take her with them.

She is a big BIG cat: not only is she big boned, but she's a very chubby cat, too.

I just brought her home on 11-8-2010, and as I write this, she's only been here for about 7 hours.

She hid for several hours. Now, she's just watching me from about 6 feet away.

When I went to get her, she was very friendly, and a very laid back cat. She rolled over and let me rub her tummy, which is a sign of trust.

I expect once she gets used to her new home, and to me, she'll be more like she was in her original home.

She must be pretty much in shock right now: I've taken her from the only home she's lived in since she was a kitten, and the people she loved.

But, I'm sure she will adjust, given time.

And, my house is now a home once more.:D

Alright ! That's a beautiful cat, with great eyes ! You are so right about the empty house - after you've been allowed to share your house with a cat (or two or three), when they depart, the house is so EMPTY. Enjoy your new best friend !

That's great. :) It's very comforting to see animals in loving homes.

It's something that can be easily overlooked, but deep down we think of our pets as family. Earlier this year, my family lost a calico and German Shepard within a month of each other, and it depressed the hell out of us.

Cats are special friends. Our oldest, 14-17 yr old, have all passed on in the last 2.5 yr. They were members of our family. Our cats are 'indoor-only' - and we don't know how to say no to strays, now having seven in the house. I'll never be able to replace the friendship provided by my old pal Casper, but the newer cats are all individuals. From my experience, I predict you'll have a great relationship with Lorelei - she has kind eyes. Congratulations to you both!

Looks like she moved right in and got comfortable on your pillow! ;)

Along with the blue eyes, she's got the dark Siamese paws too. I'd bet the other half of her parents was a Maine Coon.

Beautiful young lady! We lost our 17 year old Maine Coon, Velvet, a couple of years ago. Immediately got a DLH (Rosie)who was a few months old. He's now about 2 and weighs in at 22 lbs. Just a year ago we also got a DSH (Willow) who was only a few months old. She's now about 8 lbs and loves to wrestle with her "brother." He outweighs her by 14 lbs but never hurts her, rather he puts up with her foolishness and when he's had enough, just grabs her with his front paws and flops her onto the floor. They're both inside cats and have had their front claws removed. You're right, a home without a cat (s) is sorta' empty.

Congratulations on your new family member. I am first and foremost a dog person, but I have to admit a fondness of cats, too. The notion that people cannot enjoy and admire both animals is just nonsense to me. In my case, I have not had a cat of my own for more than thirty years now - due to allergy issues with them. :(

I'm glad you found your new friend. That is an imposing looking cat! :)

what a doll!!!!!!!! does she have the siamese voice too. houses are not homes without at least one cat.

That is a very pretty cat. I am glad to see that I am not the only who likes S&W's and cats.

Beautiful kitties!:D

No, she doesn't have the famous Siamese voice...much to my relief.

I have only heard a few little meows from her, so far.

She's still very scared at being in a new place; I feel so bad for her.

But, she will settle in, with time.

Everyone should have more than 1 cat, although the 7 I have right now is a little much.

Good for you Goldenlight, beautiful cat.

And Lorelei your fortunate, congratulations! After you get used to where stuff is located and make the place yours you'll feel comfortably right at home.

Hearty congratulations to you for choosing to adopt such a beauty - and to her for the intelligence to pick such a caring new owner and home.

May you both have many happy times and many smiles on your mutual adventure!

Regards,

Dyson [who misses his cats]
