Melonite uneven question

Any idea why the melonite is uneven in this corner? Only a month old. Wasn't like that when I first got it. It's going into my rotation so it will be beat to hell in a year but just curious why this might be. S&W says just put light oil on it but never did get a "why" answer.

Melonite is hard enough that often it acts as an abrasive and removes material from other items it touches and the material sticks in the finish. The oil blends in the slightly different materials.

Oil it and forget it.

That makes sense, thanks for the info. Yeah I oiled it and like I said I treat my carry guns like tools. I keep them running but cosmetics.... lol they look rough after a year or so
