It was not a 9 month pregnancy
It took Textron about 5 years to work out the "transition crash bugs" -- horizontal to vertical flight. Take-offs were ok, but landings were problematic. It delivers combat troops to a hot LZ without any defensive weapons -- an aeronautical dead duck.

The daughter, who was a Marine crew chief on an MV-22 until about a month ago, says " When you're being escorted by two A-10 Warthogs, you really don't need a front firing gun!"
She would also probably take exception to any reluctance to classify her M-2 Browning .50 cal as a defensive weapon.
( But she liked that meme when I showed it to her.)
