I'll tell you what's really over the top, if you so much as seek counseling from your branch of service, after a tour in the sandbox for anything that may be remotely related to PTSD, this simple act of seeking help not only goes into your medical service record, but upon your discharge or retirement, this info is sent to the Veteran's Admin, who have unilaterally made a decision to report this medical information to the NICS database. It is a no wonder thousands of career types, Operators, aviators, etc steer clear of this motherless psychobabble &^%$'s, and when confronted by command about the possibility if one is feeling "blue", we all deny with a vengeance.
Once you get on the NICS database for being a "mental", you are screwed, even if it's not warranted. While you have the opportunity to contest this report, which in effect nullifies your 2A rights, the onus is on the individual to prove the military and the VA overreached and overreacted, and good luck with that adventure.
