Guys & Gals,
I don't know how it is in other areas ...but....get up at 4 to go to the gym & turn on the news.It seems like "every" morning someone is shot or stabbed .Lately more & more drive bys & people shot just standing outside their homes.Everyday I decide which gun & knives to carry! I never know....EDC is now a habit....it's no longer a choice....it's a habit.Stuational awareness is a habit...back to the wall is a habit....profiling is a habit....cking to see if a person is armed is also a habit.Going to shoot is no longer a sometimes thing....it's become a habit! Some may think I'm "nuts"...I don't think I am....so ya'll think I may be just a little paranoid??

i live in hollywood fl just to the north of you. its supposed to be a "nicer" town. i carry 2 knives, an HK P30, and 2 spare mags EVERY day, period. if in the car for any length of time, a 442 in an ankle rig gets added to the gear. nights a streamlight flashlight goes into the offhand front pocket. my wife has been calling me paranoid for years. 2 weeks ago she decided she needs a 2nd gun to take along in the car. she does edc a 637 with 2 speed loaders already, but i got her a G42 with +2 extensions for the 2 mags. she says it makes her feel better knowing its there, and it makes me feel better knowing shes better armed...

Just because you're paranoid....

...doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

Always gun - S&W Model 642-2 with Speer 135 grain +P "Short Barrel" GDHPs.
Always ammo - 2 Bianchi Speed Strips® with same ammo.
Off-duty gun - S&W Model 13-3 with Speer 135 grain .357 Magnum "Short Barrel" GDHPs.
Off-duty ammo - 2 Safariland Comp II J-K2C Speedloaders with same ammo.
2nd BUG* - S&W Model 37 with standard pressure Monarch 158 grain JHPs. (I don't expect them to expand.)
Knife - Spyderco Wayne Goddard design.
Knife - Victorinox Swiss Army Classic SD Black.
Other knives as needed.
Flashlight - UTILITECH 200 Lumen flashlight w/spare batteries.

*(2nd BUG is only worn at work or when traveling, usually in an ankle [Yuck!] holster.)

Duty gun - S&W Model 686-6 with Remington HTP 125 grain SJHP .357 Magnum and four HKS 586 Speedloaders. (See also: Always gun and 2nd BUG.)

My wife isn't paranoid: She just carries one gun - a 4 inch S&W Model 681 (M) with Crimson Trace grip and Remington 125 grain SJHP .38 Special +P ammo and two HKS 586 Speedloaders. (Almost no recoil.)

Situational awareness is not paranoia.
Trying to protect your family is not paranoia.

Forcing your views and interpretations upon everyone you meet = paranoia.
or being a politician. :)

No offense to you guys that live there, but the times I've been Miami I've felt like I was in a different country. If I lived there, I'd be sure to be on the ready, as well...

Back in the late 80's my daily carry gun around town was a .380 Walther PPK ,
When I went down to Miami I switched to a Model 59 with two spare mags topped off with Winchester silvertips and the PPK as backup....

Still call that Model 59 my Mi-Jami gun.

I don't know how it is in other areas ...
Growing up in NYC has made me naturally cautious (suspicious). It never goes away. It appeared odd to people in historically safe small towns, but there it is.

Now, in retirement, I live in one of those safe small towns. Still cautious, only now I have better tools for defense, just in case.

Spent some time in Miami in the early 80's, family business. It was pretty wild 35 years ago. Last time I was down a few years back, I was going 80 in a 65 zone and cars were passing on the left in the emergency flap. Seems like most violence is between "known entities" and "random violence" happens when a "non-combatant" is in the wrong place at the wrong time. No way to prepare for that, no matter where you live. Stay well. Joe
