Microwave Question.

I had a microwave from the early 80's, big hoss..It finally quit, I took it apart..Didn't know about the electrical charge..I had no issues and got some really strong round magnets from it..I always did take things apart to see how they worked as a youngster, still do..:)

Lies I tell ya...

Get two plants, water one with room temperature water from tap. Microwave some water let is get to room temperature and water the other. Do it for a month and see what microwaves do to the water.

Start with some conspiracy mentality, toss in some lack of scientific knowledge, and top it off with a poorly conducted or deliberately misleading report and sprinkle it with some fear of the unknown and voila you have just started a rumor which may ultimately become the stuff of folklore.

Microwaves were invented by a feller named Radar O'Reilly.

They work best when powered from the generator on a Willys.

I think some old boy told me once they were one of those fair-day cages.

I just ain't never seen one of them fair-day critters around here. I'd really like to see a pick-thur of one of 'em a'fore I die if'n one of youns has one.

My kitchen stove along with part of the counter top has become my
work bench. I have three guns taken apart on there right now. If it
wasn't for my trusty microwave I'd probably starve to death. The last
time one quit working I had a replacement before the night was over.

I've done this and killed the plants.

Then again, I kill all plants.

Funny , the newer ones are cheaper in both price and quality , but seem to have more features , and have more cooking power output while consuming less electricity (more efficient).

Magnetron, huh? Sounds like an evil genius!

Actually, the cavity magnetron was invented in 1940 by two evil geniuses, Randall and Boot, at Birmingham University in England. :) The radar on the P-61 and many other early nightfighters used the magnetron.

There was a story that in later life one of them developed cataracts. He cheerfully put it down to his habit of checking that the tube heaters were glowing by looking down the waveguide of active magnetrons.:eek::eek::eek:

I didn't think......

I wanted to dry out some extra fish filter charcoal in my microwave one time. (I made too much and the stuff was expensive) I figured that I could put it in the microwave a few minutes and evaporate the water. To make a long story short, it looked like a lightning storm in my microwave like something out of a science fiction movie. Carbon is conductive and may also have been impregnated with some metals. I SHOULD have just put it in the conventional oven on a tray.

Well, the past few days have been a revelation to me. Somewhere in this thread I posted that I didn't intend to replace my newly dead microwave, now I'm not so sure. Lofty intentions, maybe, practical? Not so much. You just don't realize how handy a device like a microwave is until you have to do without one. For instance, rice. How do you reheat rice without a mw? Bake it? In a pan it dries out. I eat a LOT of rice. Spaghetti is no problem, just boil some water & pop it in for a minute. I don't put sauce on it till I serve it, anyway. I drink my coffee slow in the morning, & even with an insulated mug I need to nuke it to get back tp the proper temperature. I haven't had coffee since the mw died!
I was talking with my Dad, & he told me they had one they weren't using & I was welcome to it. So did my Sister. But they're in Texas, & I won't be able to make it there till Christmas. I'm trying real hard not to buy one, but its hard!:(

Maybe you need a phase change mug to regulate the temperature of your coffee.

If microwave ovens allowed you to tune the frequency they could work better in a variety of foods. They generally work best on the water content of the food item which can result in items such as lasagna having the cheese dried out entirely while the sauce is boiling and the pasta is still cold.

A cheap, good sized microwave is about $100 at Best Buy. I know this because I bought one two years ago to replace the little guy We got after ma-in-law passed in 2008. She had owned it over ten years to my knowledge before that.

Lol
Snope snopes bro. It's just a old couple who does all their research off of google. So ya can't always trust snopes.....

And btw bottled water does the same thing. It's basically dead water. Not sure if you remember that part of biology class. Plants depend or the live water to get its nutrition.

Ya my friend actually did it as well. I've never heard of this before she showed me. So sorry no conspiracy theory here.

To the OP just toss it and buy a almost new for around $25 on craigslist. Or Kmart new for $50

I never use the microwave. We have one and my wife uses it, I do my cookin' with the stove.
I call microwave ovens, "The whiteman's magic cooking box."
I have nothing against them, just never got into the habit of microwaving anything.

I've killed at least 3 microwaves reheating coffee. Accidentally set it for 20 mins. instead of 2. Coffee boils over and runs down the hole in the center. Couple times and thats it for Mr. MW. Accidentally set fire to a paper towel the other day. I've got 2 fire extinguishers in the kitchen. I'm not programmed for women's work.

I thought I was useless in the kitchen, but it's nice to meet a real pro.:D
