Mid '70's boxes

Did revolvers come in the blue box WITH a mahogany presentation case or did they simply come in the mahogany case and no blue box?
I was just thinking about the new 29-2 I bought (because I get to take it home tomorrow) and it occurred to me that there is no blue s&Wesson box w/lable, just the mahogany box. It does have all of the various papers and tools but no "feature label".

So then the older revolvers did come with both boxes? Perhaps mine will be down in the bottom of the card card box he shipped it in. Like I say, I don't take possession until tomorrow.

I have 18 N frame guns with wood presentation case. Only four included the blue box and two also included the shipping carton.

.......and yes they were all shipped in a cardboard box. I'm not aware of any of them being shipped in the wood presentation case. Correct me if i'm wrong.

My first ever handgun purchase was a brand spankin' new 4" blued Model 57. That was back in 1979 when I was out of college and had my first real job. I was actually searching for a Model 29-2 (yes, it was the "Dirty Harry" era!), but I found that .41 Magnum at a local gun store and really liked it. The revolver came inside the mahogany presentation case with the tools and paperwork, but no blue cardboard box or shipping box. I don't know if the gun shop owner had unpacked and kept the cardboard boxes, or whether S&W shipped just the mahogany case.

Model 29s were shipped in the presentation case that was contained in a cardboard outer carton from around 1960 to 1978. The package shown in post #2 was used beginning in 1979 and used through 1985 when the presentation case was discontinued (it was an extra cost option beginning in 1982). The cardboard outer carton (presentation case inside) shown below dates to March 1973.

Yes, that one shipped in November 1980......Ben
