They may have this gear for a certain set of needs and just happened to be working in this environment this time. As for covering faces, while I never needed to do it, there are places where cops are targeted off duty and doing as much as possible to conceal one's identity is critical to the safety of officers and families. I knew officers who were targeted at home and at least one former Calibre Press instructor had a shooting is his front yard in such an event.

Didn't know that about the pythons -- thanks for the heads up. Wonder if "squeezing" the trigger comes natural to them...

Could you tell us a little more about what the original call was that the PD/sheriffs got? Not what the call ended up being, but what the first call was? Or what agency policy is regarding required tactics and gear when such a call is received?

Thanks in advance for squaring that up, long as you got this one zeroed.

West Palm hard on US 1 is nothing but strip malls, shopping and restaurants... The need for full camo and a gilly suit regardless of the call in a sea of concrete and parking lots filled with Priuses with NJ tags is at best foolhardy.
Hope that "squares" it for you.:D

Oh, then you don't know. Yes, that does square it nicely, thanks. ;)

If you watch the news story video (1:24 mark) the guy in the ghillie is laying next to the bushes and seems to blend in a lot better than he would in an all black SWAT outfit.

I spent a lot of years as a working street cop. One of the FEW hard and fast rules I had, unless I was there I would not offer an opinion on what another officer did. I often had an opinion but I generally kept it to myself. But in this case it sure appears as if the two snipers one in camo. with the face covering and the second in the ghillie suite are over the top.

Oh come on, didn't anyone see the movie Swamp Thing. It's very simple. He went through the academy and is now working for the Palm Beach Sheriff's Department as a sniper. :p

If you guys actually watch the news report, you would see that the officers in question were behind bushes, in the prone at one time. Not just standing behind a police car.
