I bought a 686-5 that has had the MIM trigger replaced with a forged one and was wondering how to tell if the hammer was replaced at the same time. I know the MIM trigger has the groove down the back but don't know about the hammer. The hammer on the gun looks the same as the trigger but I don't know if that means anything at all. Any help would be appreciated. I'm don't feel that strongly against MIM but am just curious.
Thanks.

Mim hammers generally have a finer profile than thier machined counterparts. They are also a fairly uniform dark brow/blue color. Post a pic and we can tell you quickly.

I have no idea how to post pictures, but, based on your description the hammer was replaced also. The coloring is grey to very dark grey, not consistent, and looks like it came from the same block of steel as the trigger.
