I've been looking for a blue 586 to go with my Nickel 586 and today was the day. No box but it is a nice no dash model AAE serial number so I'm thinking '81-'82 time frame. Stocks have nice figure to them as well. Both of these are no dash guns.

Looks like you found a Beauty - barely looks fired. I own a M586 6" and still shoot it now and then. I specifically purchased it in 1983 when the word started spreading like wildfire that too many light magnums shot out of a K frame isn't a good thing, so I bought the L frame for that purpose. Still shoots and looks great! Best of luck with yours.

One of the guys where I worked around that same time period ordered a 6" with target stocks,target hammer, target trigger, red ramp front sight and white outline rear. It looked amazing when he took it out of the box. I ordered a more humble GP100 at the same time.

My absolute favorite 357 Magnum, and yours looks GREAT! My 4” needs a 6” big brother. It is currently at the top of my “no need but want” list.

What's interesting is my Model 586 has the same prefix, Serial AAE 3097 Shipped May 1982 but mine has the large right side trademark.

Yea, that seems odd. This one is a little older at AAE 1926. But you would think the rollmark would be the same that close together. Who knows?
I can't decide which I like better. Usually I'm more for nickel or stainless, but that blue looks too good. nice score
My 681 locked up during quals and thankfully not during an incident (in the 1980s). All we carried at the time were 38 +P 158 grain LRN. I did fire some .357s thru it but not many. I had three kids who ate, a lot

A 4 inch 586 is a thing of beauty. My wife got me a 586 ND for Christmas two years ago. It has possibly the best trigger of all my Smiths. Just awesome.
After a range trip with a new “interloper”:
ETA - mine has not had the “M” upgrade done either. No problems so far with mostly 38 Special. I have run some “medium spicy” 158gr SWC and 180gr WFN reloads through it as well with no issues. I tend to stay away from hot 125gr JHP’s.

I was very pleased with those. Most of the ones I've seen from that time period were pretty nice, especially on the blued guns.

As far as the M (firing pin bushing) update my no- didnt get it eithet and Ive shot some pretty hot 125's and 158's in it and havent had any issues so far.
Mine is AAC prefix with large sideplate TM. However, these duty guns were not issued until late 1982, early '83. Our department bought about 100 of them at that time. I cannot understand how such early prefix guns were sold so late after their likely production. I bought mine when we transitioned to Glock pistols around 1990.
My 4" blued has the AAE78XX serial # and was shipped April '82. I have found them to be very well balanced gun and very accurate with my cast bullet loads. The action is very smooth also! Enjoy and shoot your 586!!
