I sit here at my keyboard, typing, heavy-hearted. With the sad
mist of disappointment mingled in my text.
Woulda.
Coulda.
Shoulda.
Sigh...
I had it in my hands just yesterday! A FABulous, heavy barreled
Model 17. Beautiful dark blue, in near perfect condition.
Do I? Don't I? I was fully confident it would wait until today for
me to come and claim it, and as far as I knew, it was still there when I called to ask about it this morning.
Maybe I didn't make it evident enough to the salesgirl, I wasn't just making a
casual inquiry, but didn't ask them to pull it out of the case and hold it for me. (Ahhhrrrrrrrrgh!)

After work, in giddy anticipation, I headed with great haste to the LGS.
What do you mean it's GONE?!?!?
Yeah, someone bought it. Last night, or this morning before I called.
It's not like this hasn't happened before. I know, I know, a Smith in the hand...but this time it's a really bitter lesson.
That revolver is #2 on my bucket list.
I suppose the Gun Angels are entitled to a vacation, and I have, in the recent past, been extraordinarily lucky in
finding desired firearms, but man, that 17 was SOOOOooooo almost mine. :(

What are your stories of "The one that got away" ?

I waited
I dreamed
All was mine it did seem
And now I shall never be sated

Good words.

Thank you! I feel much better.
I'm also thinking about that other person's "Gun Angel", and how
happy they were to put that 17 into their charge's hands.

And I also realized, if I were handed all the guns on my list all at once, there would need to be a winning lottery ticket along with them!

Yes...something as good, or better, will be coming soon! :)

Hmmmmm...

Well Laketime, now that you've asked it, I am now asking
myself the same. It may be because I didn't want to put it on
the plastic, since I haven't gotten my tax refund yet.
Or, it could also be that my subconscious really wants the #1 on the list first. The M63.

I had been wanting a sp101 3" for some time. Finally LGS had on in stock. I held it, paused, ya/nay? I'll pass. put it back. Walked to car in far end of parking lot. changed my mind. went back in only to find someone was filling out paperwork to purchase it! Minutes! Layaway costs nothing so now if in doubt Lay it away. decide later.

Well you have more control than me. I am the definition of impulse buyer .Which is much worse on the wallet.

Eh, it happens... Don't worry too much.

I found a gun I wanted - on sale even - walked away and it was gone when I went back. It was an inox Beretta 21a :)

I found a beat up old 45 at a flea market when i was a kid.... they wanted $800 for it, "because there were only a hundred made"..... my dad talked me out of it (I didn't have enough money anyway, and he wasn't fronting me the rest (early 80's).... He told me to wait for a pristine Colt, like the one he carried in WW2....

Singers now go for 20K & up..... OOPS!!! and to think it was in my hand LOL.....

I walked up to a dealer 3 years ago that I knew for a long time and he had a 17-3 that was mint condition for $550 and I bought it. Later in the time I was at the gun show a guy called me at the show and tracked me down at the show and offered $750 for it and I turned him down. I had brought a close friend with me to the gun show and on the way home he begged me to sell it to him and I did and guess what he paid me what I had paid for it. Long story short he is still one of my best friends and sometimes you do things like this for a friend.

OH! Do I wish my Sweety were here to read this! LOL!!!!
He was so miffed when I spotted the Mustang and pounced on it before he did. He chided me for impulse buying.
But I did see it first!

I'd like to be your friend, fyimo! Looks to me like you are a kind and generous person. You've got good karma going there.
BTW, I have a 17-4, with barely a spin mark on it. It's a real good shooter too.

Sorry to hear you were sleeping while at the LGS, then awoke to a horrible nightmare! Yikes. Next time you will no better.

I just did an image search. Those are nice little
pistols! I didn't know what inox was, but my Sweety has the
22 short.

Yep. I have the regular one, a fairly rare blued one and (still) need the inox model to complete the set...

But yes, it was one that 'got away...'

The good thing is there are quite a few 17's still to be had.
Keep your eyes open and one will turn up soon for ya'.
Probably at the most least expected time.
Like when your flat broke. Haha
Naw, i'm confident you will get your number two soon.
I like my 3 pre-17's and they come along with some frequency
if i'm paying attention.
