Here's the deal. Back on September 23rd I ordered an item off the internet. Not gun related. I didn't know the company. Never did business with them before. But they had what I wanted at the best price. Credit card charge went through right after ordering.
Six weeks now and it has not arrived. Not even a shipping notification e-mail. About 10 days ago I sent them an e-mail. No response. Tried again today, e-mail didn't go through. Tried calling them, call didn't go through.
Who do I need to contact to file a complaint and try to get my money back? Credit card company? Consumer Protection? Police? Feds?
Its only $50, but still I don't like being cheated.

Ok, I got a dispute filed with the credit card company and a complaint filed with the FTC. It may take a while, but I should get my money back.
Thanks for the info and the link. :D

I had the same problem recently and the CC company refunded me. Unfortunately it took 2 months to resolve.

What site did you order from?
Did you research them online??

As said above, keep a close eye on charges for a while. I had a similar situation a couple months back and while they did not immediately charge my card, I did start seeing some small charges popping up that I did not do. Had to get the card replaced and go through the irritation of changing all the places I have monthly payments set up. Do not be surprised if in the next couple months strange charges start showing up.

Oh, and NEVER use a debit card for online purchases. The money is gone forever.

Not true. If the debit card has a Mastercard or Visa logo you are afforded the same fraud protection as a credit card. The difference is that the money leaves your account at the time of purchase. It is put back in your account at time of dispute.

Thank God our credit union( Navy Federal) has a excellent policy of covering credit card issues. I seldom order much online unless its a well known company.

The CC’s we use send a text and call within hours (I guess they wait for some pattern)of unauthorized charges and we will not have to pay them.

The CC companies will never tell you how they figure out what is fraud and what is not.

As stated, a pain to update recurring charges but we have it down pat now, as we have gone through it a half dozens times in the last 10 years with different cards.

I was not aware of that. Thank you for the clarification.

When you call your CC, tell them it as been over 30 days. If you want to throw legalish at them quote 16 CFR Part 435.

Rule Summary
The Rule, issued in 1975, requires sellers who solicit buyers to order merchandise through the mail, via the Internet, or by phone to have a reasonable basis to expect that the sellers can ship within the advertised time frame, or, if no time frame is specified, within 30 days.

I would advise to have one credit card that is used for online purchases only. It makes it much easier to watch for online abuses and eliminates this hassle of changing the monthly auto payments.
