Yeah, but the 14-5 with the full lug is in high demand. I'd pay $600.00 or more in a heartbeat if I hadn't stopped buying guns (repeat to self as needed).

There is a premium on the F/U barrel and also for a 4" barrel.
LNIB 4" I would not be surprised would sell quickly for $1100 on the forum.

Why is the full underlug so desirable? The K-frames had an ideal balance without an underlug.

I just sold a 14-4 with 8 3/8" barrel for $375 delivered.
Sure wish I could have been the one to buy it from you. I've been looking for that same barrel length 14 and the gun shops in my area are all selling 6"model 14's at over $650. Even found one that was beat up and the guy was asking $800... which was beyond ridiculous.

I had it posted in the Want to Sell part of this forum a month ago for $400 but got no responses. I put it on Gunbroker and got no bids. I finally sold it in a Want to Sell site on Gunboards. Agreed to a $375 delivered price.

Basically the laws of supply and demand,
4" Model 15 and 6" Model 14's were made in large numbers
The 4" Model 14-2, 14-3 were not regualr cataloged items and made in small numbers making them now kinda rare which adds a premium because of that rarity.

The 4" 14-5 full underlug was a regular cataloged item but not commonly encountered today for sale.
My guess is they did not sell in great numbers in the civilian and LEO market market because of the L frame Model 586 that looked very similar at the time but fired the 357 round also.

I have only seen a couple 4"ers come up for sale in the last 5 years and they got their asking price rather quickly.

low production number S&W + short barrel length = desirable

I have noticed that that the k frame 38 special revolvers lag in price when compared to the 357 magnum K frames so to me unless it was the full barrel under lug I'd place the value at $450 tops unless it had the box and all the goodies with it. The only other factor that affects price is if it's a snub nose as they are bought for concealed carry and usually go for a higher price.
