When I try to open the cylinder it is hard to do and sticks, but putting more pressure on it, will it comes open.

If I push the cylinder back toward the recoil shield while engaging the cylinder release It comes easily.

What is the fix, a longer cylinder pin? Thanks

Make sure the ejector rod is tight. Sometimes they unscrew a little. That happened to me and tightening the ejector rod fixed it.

I am having the exact same problem with one of mine. There is a thread in the "Smithing" forum regarding it too.

I have been too busy to investigate any further recently, but I am gonna break it completely down again and re-clean the bolt area again.

Have you taken yours apart and seen what the insides look like? After trying a few things, the general consensus is that the bolt is being obstructed by debris or gunk and not able to travel forward enough to work effectively.

Not to sound too stupid, but would the same hold true for a Model 38? The cylinder release is almost two stages - cylinder latch moves easily about half the distance you'd expect, push real hard the last bit and then it'll open. It's not a smooth process.

Something else you can do is to file the bolt a little bit so it can travel further. Of course this is an irreversible process, so use caution. Take too much off and it's gonna stick out more than it should.

I also thought of the cylinder release being unscrewed. Keep in mind after 1960 they are reverse threaded. (Left hand screw).

I will check the ejector rod tonight, I finger tightened it and did not get any movement either right nor left.

The gun appears unmolested. Thanks for all your input

The ejector rod was tight.

Took out the center pin and found one in my spares that was about 20 30 thousands longer. What a difference that made!!

Looks like this came from the factory this way. Gun has not been shot much at all.
