Hi guys,

I picked up a Mod 29 from 1973 with these grips on it, are they genuine or aftermarket copies.

They're genuine and very nice.

They appear to be nice factory smooth Goncalo Alves Targets, probably added after the gun was bought; the originals were like these but checkered.

Unless the medallions are not S&W there is absolutely no reason to think those are anything except factory smooth targets, also known as "Presentation". I have never seen any make of after-market stocks that had riveted in medallions and stock washers!

The stocks were made by S&W, but as Alan said, are probably a replacement for the original stocks that were checked and made of Goncalo alves. Also, the stocks appear to have been refinished (there is a lot of residue in the S&W monograms). Finally, the stocks you have are either rosewood or Goncalo alves. It is hard to tell from the photo.

Good looking stocks. I too have never seen any after-market stocks for S&Ws that had S&W medallions swaged in place with metal stock washers.
