Hi,

I have a Mod 586-7 PC 3" bbl and I don't want to commit heresy (or be accused!) but i am really disappointed with the factory front site. Tritium? Really? Maybe if I had 20 YO eyes.... I need something high contrast and if tritium is an option, all the better. Current site might as well be painted black (and I would prefer not to paint it red).

I realize this is a pinned front site. Been online searching, been to my local armorer, and I have not been able to find a good front site replacement. I do not want to mill/modify the structure of the gun.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

As an aside - I really like all other aspects of the gun...particularly the smoothness of the trigger pull. Its a great gun I just want to make it near perfect for me with the front site change.

Thanks everyone!

The front sights on the L-Comps are junk. It's the one weak spot of the entire gun. Most of us replace them with something better. The most common replacement is the XS Dot sights. They make them in standard and big dot flavors. Either one is ten times better than the factory sight. The standard dot is small enough to keep the factory rear if you choose, or get a fixed rear from Cylinder and Slide if you like. But either size comes with a new rear sight too.

I didn't want to say but I agree

Yes - the front sites are junk! Basically useless to me.

Thanks for the suggestion on the XS Big Dot - will check it out.

326Mod10 -

I am just not a fan of the gold bead. Reminds me of a shotgun and for the money that I spent on the PC of this model, I would like to try and make the sight change "an upgrade". I'm a fan of high contrast sights - just my personal style.

I put the regular dot XS on my 586 L-Comp. however the company did not sell tritium sights for the rear. So I only have tritium in front. So it was still a compromised sight picture when I was done. And a bit of a weird site picture anyway. See Pic.

My final low-light carry solution ended up being a G-17 with Trijicon night sights and an 800 Lumen TLR-1 HL in a Galco Halo holster. pic 2. The same light that lives on my M&P R8 pic 3.

I asked Simply Rugged to build me a holster for the R8 with light mounted. They emailed me back that they would rather not because it would be like "luggage." Too big.

I hear ya on the sight picture - I just saw a you tube video where a guy was speaking to the exact same issue - is it hard to get used to?

If it was your only gun, then you could get used to it. But because I have to train with Glocks and my other Smith and Wesson's are also different I gave up and went back to the original site.

I think there should be as much sight picture consistency between platforms as reasonably possible.

I saw the OP post this morning as I was heading out the door and was going to respond when I got home. Now that I see dwever responded I dont have to bother as I bought his 586 L-Comp. I was honestly wondering about the sight choice, but it works very well. I shoot other revolvers and 1911s and the sight choice he had installed points very naturally. Also, lets be honest on whether or not you are going to be using the sight picture on the 586 for 50 yard shots :). I shoot the L-Comp at purely self defense distances and the sight combo works well.
Good luck!

BTW dwever, thanks for selling me the L-Comp. It is one of my favorites and I love it.

Killer pics Dewever! Love the G17 idea for CC - mine will be a G19 with TruGlo TFX Pro sights. Waiting on my holster from DM Bullard.

Great info WisconsinKen -I just need more contrast because the factory sites just make me look like a newbie at the range. So the Big Dot may work out for me. ...and doesn't that L comp shoot just great? Had a retired police officer check it out at the range and he was impressed with the smooth action.

I agree, shoots like a dream.
Also, I am even more spoiled. Dwever had TK Customs do an action job on it while they were swapping out the front sight.
If this 586 is a typical example of their work, I am very impressed and would recommend them.
If you want any detail pics of the sight picture or front sight, let me know.

I re-barreled my L-Comp to 4", and added a Dawson F/O front sight. I hated the dead night sight, and the port. By adding 1" of barrel, I picked up 1.5" of usable barrel. It shoots like a dream, and carries the same as the 3" barrel, to me. I don't love the look of the pachmyrs but they really feel good. I shoot it a lot, and carry it always.

I went with a 3 dot set up to match my semi's. Meprolight Tru-Dot® Night Sights CAT # ML - 22771

Not the best pictures but you get the idea.
