Mod 60-4 Round or Square Butt

I'm in the process of buying this revolver from S&W45Colt here on the forum.

I would like to get some wooden grips for it... how do I know if I have to order round or square butt?

As far as I have ever seen all Model 60-4s are round butt.

The Model 60-4 is a round butt frame. You can convert this to a square butt configuration with different grips. Round butt combat grips work well as do the regular target (square) grips for J frames.

that appears to be a round butt frame...only way to know for sure is to take the grips off and look...(i personally would do that as soon as i got the gun, as i prefer the wooden grips)

Only a few special runs of model 60s were square butt, and the -4 is definitely a RB.

Jen. I have one with wooden original RB combats. It's an absolute dream to shoot. You can't go wrong. Hope you get it. The seller is a class act as well.

The 60-4 is one of the sweetest field pistols for edible small game ever built. I truly treasure mine and have taken a number of small game animals and birds with it. My favorite load is a home cast H&G full wadcutter - either the #50 (classic button nose) or #251 a dbl ended w/c. This last one can be loaded with the first band out and loaded to standard velocity for maximum smack for a non-plus P .38 Special. That full flat nose does VERY good work. Here's my "Special" special:

Yep, the 60-4 is one of the nicest J-frames ever. A great do-everything revolver that can hold its own whether for target work, home defense, hunting, concealed or open carry. Excellent balance, accuracy that rivals my 4" K-frames, and the full underlug helps with recoil.

The laser-cut stocks from the Model 60 Pro Series look nice on the 60-4 and work well.
