I am trying to find a set of the original grips that would have come with my 640-1. I remember the SCSW lists that it would have had Uncle mikes boot grips. I have two main questions:
1)Those that bought a 640-1 new, did it come with Uncle Mikes Boot Grips and did it have the S&W logo on them?
2)Of the grips available at S&W (Category - Rubber Grips) which one best matches what was originally on the gun?
I figure it is either 225110000, 413030000, or 413040000.

Firebird, I have a late model 640 with key safety lock I purchased used last year. It has grips identical to SKU:41304000 except with no S&W trademark. However, I have a S&W 2009 catalog where models 317, 60,63,640 and 649 all have the same grips as mine, with no trademark. Could be that only the replacement grips have the trademark, or only trademark grips were used some years. Good luck. Blackpowder30

I didn't think to look up a catalog. The closest I have is a copy of a 2003 catalog. If somebody has a 2001 catalog could you look at the picture of the 640-1?

FirebirdV8,

I bought a 640-1 NIB in 1996. It came with full size round grips similar to SKU 413040000. Later I installed an Uncle Mike's Boot Grip similar to SKU 413030000.

It is my understanding that the 640-1 were initially shod with boot grips, and later with rounded full size grips. I preferred the boot grip for CCW and made the switch early on.

Currently my 640-1 wears Executioner stags and I am looking for Tyler T-grip to finish.

Thanks for the info gila, I am wondering more for pictures in this case. Of my 3 revolvers, this will be the only one I can actually afford correct grips for without having to save up for it. I haven't decided on my carry grips yet, but will try the Hogue grips out this weekend for that purpose.

640 GRIPS

The 640-1's I've seen or owned all had the Uncle Mikes Combat Grips like shown in Florida J Frames picture. I love 640-1's.

Regards from down in Austin.

I have an old 1998 S&W catalog. At that time they listed two models of a 640, a .38 special model with standard barrel. That model came with Uncle Mike boot grips. The .357 model 640 (I'm assuming a 640-1model) is pictured with the grips in the Florida J Frame photo.

FireBird,
I have a spare set of Uncle Mikes Grips for the J Frame as shown in Florida J Frame's posting . They are excellent & have the combat finger grooves. PM me if you'd be interested.

The 640-1 came with both grips depending on when you bought it.

When they were first released in 1996 the factory was shipping them with the boot grips. Shortly thereafter the factory had enough complaints about hanging on to the little powerhouse that the longer UM grip became standard.
