I recently acquired a 10-5 blue, sb, with the 5 inch barrel, is this a
rare barrel length? Made around 1964. Pics included, my Father's Day present!

Does it bring a premium over a 4 or 6 barrel?

Rare? No, but, if it is in excellent condition a small premium would be reasonable. 5" barrels were common through the 1950s. Their popularity faded during the 1960s.

Sorry, it has original box and papers, blue and diamond magna grips numbered to gun.
Square butt. 99% condition. S/N C7244XX

Welcome aboard from Wyoming.

Premium over 4" or 6"?

I don't believe so, rather I think it's more a preference of the buyer. I have two postwar and a pre-Model number .38 M&Ps with 5" barrels, and my only one with a 4" barrel is a WW II Victory Model. I like the 5" for its great balance.

Would sure like to see photos of yours.

Model 10-5 ..... 5" barrel

Here is my 10-5.....for purpose of illustration. I think this is a 5 inch, thin barrel as opposed to the heavier barrel version.

The gun isn't rare, and the barrel length isn't particularly rare. What is a little rare is the combo of gun, barrel length, condition, and box , papers, etc.

If I were a collector, and needed a five inch gun in that condition for my safe, I would probably spring for $600.

I got this gun for Father's Day present from my son in law!! He's a great guy! Never in a million years did I expect this...

Are the stocks serial numbered to the gun? I would expect diamond magnas on this '64.

I was issued a Model 10 (nickel) with 5" standard barrel when I became a LEO n 1976. A couple of years later the department switched to 4" nickel with standard barrel. I believe the 5" barrel model 10's were used by many departments up through the 1960s - early 1970s.

Model 10-5 grips
