Some time ago I inherited a Model 10-6 (S/N D414XXX). It is pretty well pitted and rusted externally, bore and cylinder walls look fine so I think I will refurb it. Is there any place I can determine the approximate date of manufacture of the gun and is there any down-side to refurbing and shooting it. Thanks in Advance for any assistance. Gunner12

A D414XXX serial number is from 1972. The cost to refinish is almost always a bad financial investment. The costs to refinish will not result in much if any increase in value. If you just want to refinish it and keep it, then consider the extra cost and make your decision.

Hope this helps.

Re Model 10

Hello Steve:
Thanks for the input. The gun is so cosmetically rough that it will never have any dollar value, but can/will be a great shooter. So far I have steel wire brushed it (8" grinder) and sand blasted it with a small home owner sandblaster. Parts with critical dimensions (cylinder indexes, cylinder bolt, hand, etc.) were cold blued (hate that stuff) to maintain dimensional integrity and the remainder will be painted with three coats of hi-temp, acid proof paint. I have polished all internal parts to a near mirror finish and will reassemble it when I get through baking the paint (1.0 hour @ 200F) to cure the paint. Regards, Gunner12
