Hello all:

I purchased a pre-Model 10, K Frame 38 special, six shot, 5" barrel, revolver, built c.1925, obviously used from a local pawn broker for $199 in the last few months. I have a couple of questions about the weapon in a general sense:

First, does the new Model 10 found on SW's web page have what I call the "floating firing pin?" What I mean by that is this, is the firing pin built into the hammer? Forgive me if I do not get the nomenclature correct.

Secondly a general question' I thought I ran across a discussion somewhere that talked about a small snub nosed K Frame? Did SW ever make such? Please let me know of any ideas along these lines.

Thanks ahead for your input. :D

I think the new model had the firing pin in the frame, not on the hammer. I'm not sure if there are any new s&w's with a hammer mounted pin anymore.

And there are 2" (snub), model 10's.

Had to post this pic again. Just got this Monday the 16th. Can't put it down when I get home. My 2 inch 10.

Used? I guess from 1925 it's bound to be used.:D I will say that from the picture it looks dang good.

The K frame is a medium frame, a perfect example would be a model 10, A snub nosed model 10 is about as small as a K frame gets.and the model 32 was a smaller model .38 caliber guns

The Terrier mode 32 was a smaller gun. So were the 'Chief's Special' and 'Airweight' models from 1950 onward are 'j' frames that are smaller than 'K' frames.

The current model 10 does indeed have a frame mounted firing pin. S&W stopped putting them on the hammer across the board sometime in the 90's I believe, though it would vary between models as they used up the older ones during different production runs.

As previously said, the model 10 was made with a 2" barrel and that's the shortest k frame length I am aware of.
