Model 10 Production by Type

Hi everyone.

I have this S&W from my dad who was an officer in Turkey. The model number is 10-8 and serial number is 6D06XXX Can any of you please give me information about the product date of this gun? and also how much would it cost if i decide to sell it? I was just wondering if its a rare gun because it has really interesting story. Thanks.

The data provided is for all Model 10s. If you read the individual model numbers, note that some are for the standard or tapered barrel (10, 10-2, 10-4, 10-5, 10-7, 10-9 and 10-11). The heavy barrel models were made along with the tapered barrels and these include the 10-1, 10-3, 10-6, 10-8, 10-10, 10-12, and 10-14. Model 10-8 was made from 1977 until 1988. If you want to know the specific year, please provide the serial number. Hope this helps, Steve
Hello everyone, my father purchased a S&W 10-9 gun and asked me if I could learn especially the manufacture date and other important information via the serial number which is "BFB9534".

Thanks in advance :)

This one likely shipped in early 1990...and...

Best to ask this type of question in a new thread, as older threads may not checked.

Hope this is helpful.

Make sure your serial number is correct you get it from the bottom of the butt between the grips. What you have given sounds like the assembly number in the yoke when you swing out the cylinder which does not help at all

Model 10 age

Hello all -

Joined the forum tonight after trying for a while to identify the manufacture date of a S&W Model 10. Hopfefully someone is still monitoring this thread.

Here's what I have. Barrel is tapered and marked 38 S&W Special CTG. The yoke has two engravings - MOD-10 & 61902. There are a couple other stamps on the yoke (a larger 0 & 6 and a smaller 2). The serial number on the bottom of the grip is C483xxx. There are 3 screws. Two on the side plate and one at the front of the trigger guard.

I've been a LEO for 33 years and got this one from a co-worker who got it from his uncle. No history available.

I've been reading a while now trying to figure it out. Since it just states MOD-10 my guess is 1957 - 1958?

Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
Bill

By any chance is it possible to have a sent from the factory produced tapered barrel on a -6. Would a letter from Roy J. be able to affirm this.
My -9 box is marked SB on the box label "butt" is actually RB, wondering if the 10-6 may fall into a similar flub?

Obi-GUN-Kenobi thanks for this list. Just yesterday I was wondering just what mod 10 I was first issued on the job. Now I know to look for a 10-6. Perfect timing I'm going to the Nat'Show on Friday. Thanks.
