I just saw a nice 12-2 at a LGS today and was wondering what a good price would be.

It is in about a 90% finish gun with a 4" barrel and round butt and a blue finish. It has the original stocks and the serial number is D877xxx which puts it in the 1976-77 vintage. No box or papers, just the pistol.

The LGS just got it in today so they have not priced it yet.

I don't own a Model 12 and don't really know a lot about them, so I am just looking for a ballpark figure.

Thanks.

I bought a police trade in model 12 4" barrel, round butt about six years ago for $175. It makes a great carry piece as it weights about the same as a model 60 snub but gives you an extra round and the advantage of the longer barrel. I don't know what the market is around where you live so I can't give much advise on pricing.

. Picked this one up for four bills recently. Then at the last gumshoe I saw its twin for 350..

Here is 12-2, D5882XX, Shipped Dec., 1973. It was re-finished somewhere along the line in one of the anti-rust coatings, (my gunsmith buddy says he's not sure -maybe
"Armaloy"?). I bought it several years ago for $375 as a
shooter and like most 2" .38 S&Ws, it is amazingly accurate. Everything is original except the finish.
Hope this helps.

I don't often see the M12 in 4". I saw one about 18 months ago at a gun show and bought it. No box or docs, but the grips do serial number to the frame. Wear to the finish is a problem with M12s. I paid $325 for it and felt I paid too much, but now, glad I have it.

I have a 12-2 2" and used to own one in 4"and another pristine in the box 2". I felt the 4" didn't balance right for me and I sold it to a guy who had been looking for one for some time. The 2" is a masterpiece of a carry revolver. It is light and shoots very well for me. I sold the as new in the box for $500 last year. Almost any desirable S & W in good condition currently fall in the low $400's and up from what l am seeing.

I purchased two Model 12-2 in almost new condition w/o boxes this year for $400 each. The older one had a 2" bbl, round butt with diamond grips. The newer version had a 4" bbl and square butt.

I was happy to get both of the revolvers at that price.

I'm not sure what they are going for either. I have a round butt nickel 12-2 with a 2" barrel that I'm thinking about selling. It has the original box, papers, and tools. A guy I've sold two other S&W revolvers to wants to buy it. Its in excellent condition. I just don't know what to ask for it. Any help on a price is appreciated.

I thank you all for your input on this topic. It gives me a good grasp on pricing for this pistol.

I know the LGS person very well and he he said once it goes on the floor, he would let me know and that I would have first crack at the pistol.

An RB 4" K is a cool gun, and although I do not like the like standard skinny barrels, that's something worth having and paying a little more for.
