Model 12 vs. Model 627

I have no experience with either of those two models.

But, I have a lot of experience with other S&W short (2.5-3") revolvers. Including the 629 PC that is the "brother" to that 627. It shoots great.

Wise words indeed. My accuracy trouble with shorter barrels is most definitely more about these old eyes failing to get a sharp, unblurred look at my front sight than it is about the guns themselves.

I'll start researching these shooter's glasses you mention. Thanks very much for weighing in gfors.
You're welcome!
I asked my eye doctor to give me a prescription that allowed both eyes to see a sharp image, about 4-5 inches from the end of my extended arm, hand in a fist, while still maintaining some ability to see at infinity, albeit, out of focus. I just held a pencil in my hand, and had them try different lenses until I could see a sharp point, against a recognizable, but blurry background.
I also tried a prescription with the left eye set to infinity, and the right eye set for the front sight. They work well, but only on certain days, when I can get my brain to deal with 2 completely different images, at the same time.
Most of the time, the glasses with both eyes focused on the front sight, work best.

I carry a Model 12. As noted, it is at numerous disadvantages but is eminently carry-able for me. My first reaction was the recoil in K Frame was pretty much as bad as J Frame Airweight. Grips did improve that and the K Frame generally is a better DA trigger too.

The other element that made my Model 12 a keeper was the right ammo, also noted above. I absolutely shoot different .38 loadings in my 2”, 3” and 4” barrels. Some of it is me, but I also can see that it is the barrel too.

Only problem is the availability of the Model 12 snubbies. Good deals are few and far between. C’est la guerre.

My mother is 87.Years ago she asked for a revolver. I took her to the indoor range and allowed her to shoot several. She liked the model 12 and could keep all shots in the a zone at 10 yards. Put a set of laser grips on it and gave her several boxes of premium ammo.

When mom was younger she could shoot pears off the pear tree with a model 10.

That Model 12 snubbie is in a good home.

Years ago, I bought a S&W 640-1 for CCW. I let my mom check it out and she bought one too. Sadly, one day at the range, on the 25 yard line I said something really stupid. I bet that I could put more shots in the "X" than she could. Well, I ended up paying for lunch. She out shot me. Women often have better visual acuity and fine motor control than men.
