I have just arranged a trade in which I will get a Model 13-2. I know little about this model. A Model 10 adapted to fire .357 mag how?

From what I have read they heat treated the frame to handle the greater pressure of 357 ammo.

There is a lot of information on thr forum for the 13-2. I just bought a 13-3 from another member and really like the gun. Do a search and you will most likely find what you are looking for.

The model 13 is it's own model, designed to fire .357 magnum, like other K-frame .357s. There was actually a Model 10 that was adapted to fire .357 magnum. You can find reference to it in some of the model 13 threads, it's an interesting subject. There's lots of us that are near crazy for K-frame .357s. I'm definately one of them. Think of your model 13 as a blued version of a model 65 and maybe that'll put it into perspective. Oh yeah, and congratulations on finding one. Post pics when you get it, please!

It's probably more accurate to think of the Model 13 as a fixed sight Model 19, than as a magnum Model 10.

I picked up one (a 13-2) a month or so ago but after handling it a bit, I don't care as much for it as I thought I would. The heavy barrel makes it seem more muzzle heavy than I like. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep it, or send it on down the road.

It is a nice looking gun though.

The original model was a HB Model 10 in 357 Magnum sold to a NY police agency. It worked, so they began making it with its own model number: voila the Model 13. The 3" version was the last revolver adopted by the FBI.
The difference between it and a HB Model 10 is the caliber.
The differences between it and a Model 19 are the adjustable sights, bbl length options, shrouded ejector rod, and target vs magna grips as standard.
I'm a fan. Between my 2.5" Model 19 and the 3" Model 13, the 13 is what usually ends up in the holster.

The New York State Police ordered the 10-6 chambered in .357mag, 4"bbl, circa 1972. They were only in service a couple years and the agency went to the 13-2 (twin sister of the 10-6 - there are 10-6 guns overstamped to 13-2 out there). The 13-2 was another short lived in-service period. Ultimately replaced with the 28-2 about 1979. Between the 13-2 and the 28-2 was the contract fiasco with the ordered but never delivered 520.
