I have known about these 13-3 models (the last of the FBI issued revolvers) for quite some time. I also noticed that when one became available, the price was going up and up. After watching the Hickock 45 video about the 13-3 being about the best S&W in it's class available, I maxed out my home equity loan and picked this up.
I fellow forum member gave me these correct grips since my gun came with some aftermarket ones. When I do carry this (rarely) I use the "FBI" load (158 grn HP +P, .38 Special). With the grip adaptor, the gun shoots .357 Mag and .38 +P quite comfortably.
The gun looks better without the grip adaptor but is a lot more comfortable to shoot with one installed.
This would have been a perfect detective gun when I was on the job. However, I never saw anyone carrying one except FBI agents we worked with (in the 80's). The 3" barrel prints groups the size of a quarter at "combat" ranges (about 10 to 15 yards).
The photo of the FBI badge (inserted) is probably not correct since I grabbed it off the web.
