Model 14-2

My search started out for an older 38spl shooter. I picked up a nickle 14-2 last year. After purchasing and studying it in detail, I noticed that it was a model 14. I realized I had never seen/heard of a 4" model 14. further research confirmed that it was a Dayton Gun or Hanen Special. Im in the process of getting it lettered. Finish is about 85%, but the gun is super tight with a nice trigger. My question is what would be the estimated value of this piece?

I put about 150rds of wadcutters through it, but have since decided to not shoot it much. I picked up a 686 thats been assigned the task, for now.

Any estimates of value would be appreciated. I'm undecided if i should just enjoy this great shooter, store it away for my young grandson, or place it for sale to help add to someone's collection.

Nice find! I have seen very few of these for sale in any condition, so a value would be hard to estimate. It would be more than a 6" 14-2 in equivalent shape but less than a pristine Dayton Sports gun - somewhere between $450-600?

In the condition you describe, it sounds like a keeper and occasional shooter. Hope this is helpful.

It is a neat piece. I'll probably hang on to it. Feels like a piece of history, to me.

I've seen them go for up to $700 on auction sites in said condition with correct grips. Paid more than that for a blued one in a lettered rare configuration. I'd keep it, shoot it, enjoy it, and pass it down the family tree. Shoot it with the family tree first, of course.

There were only 1040 of the Hanen four inch 14-2 HB's made in 1965,
By comparison there were 1067 pre war K22-40's made in 40-41 and they are considered super rare.

Interestingly there were also four inch 14-3's made sans the HB ,
While I havent heard any production numbers they seem to pop up less than 4" Model 14-2 HB Hanens IMO.
