I put a WTB ad in the classified section for a set of correct grips for a Model 14. I understand these grips on my gun serial #352xxx are not what came on the gun when new:

On SmithNut's fine Model 14 pictorial, he put these pics up from a gun circa 1955:

Are these the grips I am looking for? Square butt magnas with a diamond?

Thanks guys. This is my first Smith and I just want it right. If anybody can point me in the right direction to purchase the proper grips, I would very much appreciate it.

Proper style diamond Magnas would be 1954 to 1966 with a tapered shoulder and nickeled brass medallions,

Be advised in 1953 they had steel medallions,
In 1952 a "High shoulder" and plastic medallions.
1946 to 1951 had a high shoulder with nickeled brass medallions .

S&W also made tapered bottom plain clothes "PC" diamond Magnas" but those are more common on snubs and Model 10's.

You could also use football relieved diamond target grips,

On a side note if you want an OEM look you should remove the trigger shoe too.

Those pics of my gun are not updated. Yes, I have already removed the aftermarket trigger shoe. I was told when holstering a trigger shoe can be a problem so I removed it.

In fact I am bidding for some on eBay right now. Ending in 2 days. Sounds like you need 'em more than me. Look for a PM and I'll send you the link.

Whoops - I already won them.

Thanks guys. I am new here but this seems like such a civil and knowledgable forum. Looking forward to shooting my new/old gun when she is wearing the proper attire!

Model 14.
serial #352xxx

It may seem like a small thing to you, but the serial number would start with a K. The letter is part of the serial number and denotes a postwar K frame revolver with target sights (which includes the Model 14). Yours dates to about 1959, which you probably already know.
Good luck hunting for the correct stocks. There are lots of them out there.

I hope you are not waiting for your grips before shooting your beauty :) The gun won't care. Enjoy your Model 14.

Not a chance in heck! I have already shot the 50 rounds the gentleman gave me when I purchased the gun. This thing shoots very well. It seems to hit anything I want at 25 yds. And it is much more pleasant than shooting my 2.5 inch Ruger Alaskan 454 Casull with the big Corbon bear rounds.:D

I am no expert but the trigger on this Model 14 is much much better than The Alaskan trigger. It is smooth as glass.
