Which of the model 14's were single action only.

Thanks in advance.

There were some special Model 14 revolvers made by S&W that were single action only but they also sold the parts to convert Model 14's to single action so it's easy to buy one converted after it left the factory.

They were any Model 14 or K-38 Masterpiece that were either special ordered as single action only, or converted after purchase. The only difference between these and standard guns is the double-action sear has been removed, or never installed. Factory single actions had a hammer that didn't have the slot for the sear cut in the front of the hammer.

It is impossible to differentiate between a factory gun and one that was converted later, if the conversion was done by installing a factory single-action hammer instead of by removing the sear. Functionally they are identical.

I have 14-3 single action and have seen a lot of 14-3 with single action only don't know if was a factory thing for -3 rev or just alot of people wanting them when the -3 came out.
I like mine it shoots real good but needs reblued may be some day I can send it back to S&W to get it done.

Are they valued the same as the double actions? I found one with the box and just wondered about the value.
Thanks,

Jim

They usually sell for more then the DA unless you get lucky.

Just bought a 14-3 SA...mechanically perfect (as far as I can tell) but has a couple of cosmetic bluing flaws. I'll shoot it next week (can hardly wait) and then call S&W re shipping it to them for refinishing and anything else it might need.
