I have a model 15-3 that is marked "Property of Sacramento Sheriff" on the left side of the frame. Serial is 8K24xxx.

It appears to be as new in the box, if it has been fired it wasn't much.

Being marked like this would it be of higher or lesser value than an unmarked model 15?

It's worth more, to a collector of Law Enforcement marked guns same as all the other LEO marked Smith and Wessons....

You know, kinda like this baby....Smith & Wesson 28-2 NYSP

I sold one of these in shooter but good condition (some holster wear and freckling) for $575 about 4 years ago. No box or anything else with it. I'd say if the specimen you're looking at is excellent shape with original box it could go for $750-$1000. Hope this helps

I remember when these were sold off. My Sister has one. Funny, they are marked to the Sheriff in Sacramento and I have a 6" M&P shipped to the Sacramento PD in 1940 and it is devoid of any PD markings. It was in a shipment of one and is still in 99% condition. Big Larry
