I can pick up a 4" Model 15-4, Combat Masterpiece with Target Trigger and Hammer, pined barrel with slight cylinder turn mark for $243.
Otherwise gun is 98%.

I'm pretty sure this is a good price but my question is about the strength of this .38 Special.
Is the Model 15-4 strong enough for extended use of +P Ammo?

Thanks - J.Solo

Back in the bad old days when I had a real job, we had M15 as the std issue dept gun. The range guns were also M15, and we fired not thousands, but 10's of thousands of +P ammo - every day, all year long. No problem with the M15 - you would probably run out of money for ammo before the M15 gave up. One of the finest guns S&W ever built.

I just bought a 15-3 from a friend at a friend's price of $250. Has a bit of holster wear, but gunsmith looked it over and says it was rarely fired.
Local gunshop prices are $375-500.

If you haven't jumped on it yet, jump on it now.

Buy it!. I paid $299.00 for a pre-15 combat masterpiece with target hammer and trigger. And yes the model 15 will handle +Ps. I have shot +Ps in my pre-15 with no problems. Mine was produced in 1951.

Again, buy it. Then you will have the finest 38 special revolver ever made.

Thanks guys for all the information.
Final price was $232 plus Tax.
The 15-4 is now on Layaway.
Will pick up in a week or two.

I took my newly acquired 15-3 to the range today. It's an outdoor range in the desert with a canopy for shade. There were maybe 20 shooters. I was the only one with a wheel gun. Young guys next to me were shooting Glocks, XD something or others, etc., at their targets placed about 10 yards. I put mine at 25 yards, pinned a 4" rifle target to the stand, and fired 24 rounds. All were inside the 4" ring. Then I tried 12 rounds at 50 yards, same size target. They weren't all on the 4" ring, but none were off the paper. I had, literally, forgotten how well these things shoot.

Then I tried the same thing with my Glock 21 duty pistol. The 15-3 out shot it, despite the fact that I just got it last week and I've been shooting various Glocks for years.

If your 15 shoots as well as mine - and I suspect it will - you're going to be one happy guy.
