Went to my LGS today looking for a 586, no luck. The dealer says he's in possession of a Combat Masterpiece Model 15 in 99% condition and that I should take a look at, so of course I do. While the 99% condition is questionable it's definately a well taken care of pistol, pinned hammer and beautiful wood grips with not a scratch on it. He's asking $499 and says it's priced right. This seems high to me and I'd like to get your opinion. This will be my first snubby and I would like to do it right. My intended use is strictly for HD and I'd like to thank you all in advance.

I have a trade pending on one myself in as new condition, No Box or Papers. Model 15-4 Square Butt, 2"
I am trading a 66 No Dash 2-1/2" Snub for it.

The one I am trading on is the only one I have ever had my hands on. I am not sure how rare they are, but seem to be way more rare than 66 Snubs.

Seems a little high to me. But that's probably what they sell for. I've not seen one for sale FTF - ever - and just a few 4" 15's. So, if you want it, get it. I prefer the stainless guns myself like the 66 snub.

Good luck!

S&W model 15, 2" barrel , $499 is a fair price...see if the LGS will take $450 OTD.

I don't believe $499 would get my dash 3.

Before anyone jumps in to let us all know, it's a given that these grips aren't "right"!

I am with almost everybody else -- go buy it. Don't even try to dicker. Just whip out the five Franklins and do the deal.

What, you are still reading? Go!

Wow, I was really surprised the majority thought $500 is a good deal as I was thinking $400 tops .

I had a nickel 15-2 snub and purchased it locally from a local gun store for $350,
That was about 2 years ago.

I know I wont win any popularity contests for saying this but,
IMO Unless you collect CM variations the snub 15 is an odd bird ,

It was only offered in SB, has the HB profile of a Model 19 and only chambered in 38 special, The cherry on top is target sites on a 2" snub.

Lastly at the time these were a cataloged item the Model 15 had a tapered barrel so the 15 snub is actually closer to the Model 14 frame
While it is unique Im sorry but a 2" Model 14 just makes no sense to me,
A 4" Model 14 definately, a 3" RB maybe, a 2" SB snub....nope.

If this is for home defense and occasional range use perhaps a 4" Stainless Model 66 or 2.5" snub for the same $500 might suit your needs ?

For CCW I prefer either a 5 shot J frame Model 37 or 6 shot K frame Model 12 Airweight snub.

Good points, but they do look cool.

I have two M15 snubs. They feel better to me than my M19 and M66 2.5 inch. (The difference is slight but there.) They both shoot accurately and
are a lot of fun at the range.

I would like to find a nickeled one to complete the trifecta.

Thanks everyone, went ahead and pulled the trigger this morning. Installed a Tyler T-grip and get to pick it up on Monday morning, $520 all in. It's a much brighter day today and upon a much more thorough examination the dealer appears to be correct about the condition and I don't think its ever been fired either (the action and cylinder are still rather tight). If it were'nt for that 48 hour cooling off period, I'd be at the range now. I'am almost afraid to be the first and mar this beautiful specimen. The dealer told me not to shoot any "Hot or Large rounds" through it because of the 2" barrel. Any thoughts or recommendations on this would be appreciated. Thanks again.

If it's factory-loaded .38 Special ammo, have at it! The 2" bbl ain't got squat to do with nuthin'. Handloads? Well, you can blow anything apart if you try.

Here's a Model 15-2 that I picked up at the little Claremore, OK gun show this past weekend. Actually pricewise you could say I bought two sets of grips - the elk and the original S&W wood (numbered to the gun) - and they threw in the M-15 for free.

And for all the guys who say they don't go to gun shows anymore 'cause there ain't nuthin' but overpriced junk, I say, "Thanks! More for me."

It's funny because I had just gotten a hankering for an M-15 snubby and had started trolling Gunbroker, and here one falls into my lap. It pays to get to gun shows early.

While I'll agree that it is a bit high by at least $50-100, they just aren't showing up like they used to, so maybe it's an OK deal. It's your money, if you can live with it, then go ahead. you probably won't be sorry.

I have to say, I really like those grips. I would like a set for my -3 too. :)

Congrats on your "wrong" grips! ;)

I don't think the price was out of line. Wonderful gun, in a not so common barrel length, at least in my neighborhood. You did well.

Listen to what Fattom said, ^^^^^^^
The barrel length has "Nothing" to do with what can
be shot out of a gun in this case. Shoot any factory
.38 special loading you like and you'll be just fine.
