Model 15 Pawn Shop Find w/Wood Shop Grips

Howdy, I could not resist buying this old model 15, despite the wood shop grips and possibly the worst red ramp front sight insert I have ever seen... I changed the grips with some old square butts I had.

My friend made a similar pair of grips back in the 70's for his Ruger 22 auto. They looked cool at the time. They were made of scraps. He even brought it into the wood shop. Back then no one would have thought of shooting any school kids. No one gave a care there was a gun in class.

That's a very nice revolver, the grips look comfortable. These win the "fugly" prize though, especially the "beer can medallions." Some folks are just resourceful. Joe

Not really what I would call a bargain, but $384 with tax. They are my regular dealer, so I just put $200 down and told them I would be back on payday...They also have a Model 14 6" well worn for $400. and a beautiful Model 10 nickel 4" (I might go back for). And a cute Beretta 950bs in 22 short for $269. A stainless Ruger Single Six 22 Mag for $349...etc etc...

Those are pretty cool actually. I kept the wood shop ones for show and tell.

Your picture in the OP made me giggle.

When I sold my Model 29 a few years ago it had Pachmyers. The guy that bought it asked if I had the originals.
The originals were those large target stocks.
Years ago, when no one in town wanted that gun because it looked like a hair dryer, I bought it.
Then I took a wood rasp to the stocks so they would better fit my little hands.

You should have seen the look on the guys face who I sold it to when he saw those bubba'd grips.

I bought this S&W revolver for $50 because of the god awful condition,including the homemade grips. Bore was good etc.

I had it cerakoted and found some Herritt grips and it is now a joy to shoot.

Yes, classic shape for vintage monogrips. His son remembered him making them. one of one likely, possibly one of two. All the glue joints did not hold up.

Yep, those are kinda ugly.

I always find it amusing when someone puts huge grips on a snubbie where the grips are bigger than the gun.

Yeah, I had to try that once on my M36 a while back. Very comfortable to shoot but the aesthetics left something to be desired.

For every Jack, there's a Jill. "Very comfortable to shoot." That may be the point. Maybe not for CC, but those grips may work on a house gun. I have those identical grips, but never found a use for them.
