Model 15 Stainless

As of now I have no intention of selling. Will be writing S&W to have a "Factory Letter" done just in case life happens and is forgotten about in my collection. Worse case, it will help my wife know what is of value.
So far the only thing I would trade it for is if I could convince the farmer next to me to let go of some acres adjacent to my farm. Do know if he's a gun guy, but worth a shot.

Also, I have no intention of killing the thread at any point. A piece of history has been found, why bury it again.

I'm not even close to a collector, but this is so fascinating I will follow it as I did the 28-1 string. I'd never heard of these 20 experimental pieces, and as for value - the sky is the limit. I can see it hitting 6 figures.

It is a very interesting thread indeed

Maybe you'd care to elaborate how you found this ultra rare gun ?

Gun shop, pawn shop, neighbour's widow, inheritance, work relation, barn find ?

I personally like to tell a bit about how I found the guns I present and I think members here enjoy reading that.

An example on how I found my Beretta 93r

Here is the factory letter for one of the stainless steel models 15's. I own this gun.

Page 2 of the letter, which I have not posted, lists the serial numbers and destination of the 5 guns (out of the 20 that were made) that were shipped. I'll post a couple pictures of mine later today.

Notabot: if you'd like, you can send me a pm, stating the full serial number, and I can tell you if your's was one of those 5 that were shipped.

Regards, Mike Priwer

Mike
It was one of the 5 shipped. No need for him to pm you.

It was already stated by OP that the gun is 825, shipped to H.H. Harris, see post 49 and 30

Guess its OK to let the cat out of the bag.

Serial ends in 25, so HH Harris. Would this have been shipped to them to supply one of their clients or presentation piece?

As for selling or keeping. Im not sure yet. I dont consider myself a gun collector, but with a dozen or so around I might be called one. I have always been a collector of militaria, rare coins/currency, and watches. So might as well add guns to that list, as many that know me might have already.

Since nobody posted this from the SCSW 4th edition here it is for the OP. Curious minds would like to know the last digit of the serial number. Good luck.

Well that didn't take long. Here is the reply from S&W historical foundation.

Congratulations! Can you elaborate on how you got it? I'd have a tough time selling it, but I'd have a hard time keeping it, also, knowing it's value would bring life changing money. But if you don't need the cash I don't see the value dropping. I do hope this gun is being kept in a safe deposit box or something.

It was bought as part of a trade deal. Rolex's for guns. Me and collector I got it from both figured it as a common, well not so common mdl 15 nickel plated and agreed on a value. I had other stainless revolers and nickel plated and thus seemed not a nice in some way. Mostly the unseen finish on the crane area. Lots of self doubt based on internet research led me here, where my suspicions were verified.

As for preservation. I've used high grade acetone to remove the PVC spotting and neutralize anything going on with the surfaces. Then wiped down with light oil on a polishing cloth, but not enough pressure to leave additional fine hairline.

Be sure to let us know how she shoots! :D:eek:

Just kidding..........;)
