I've got a chance to pick up this model 18-3 from an estate sale for $500.00. They also have a model 559 for the same price I'll ask about in another sub-forum. Anyway, I don't know much about it except it's got the wrong grips and seems very clean. Any info you guys could tell me about age and value would be appreciated!

I'd estimate the year at 1975. Depends upon how much you want a sweet-shooting .22lr K-frame. Do you have to bid or can you just make an offer? If the latter, bring four $100 bills and 2 $50's. Offer $400 cash and see if they bite.

Thanks guys!

If it's 1975, I already own a model 10-6 from the same timeframe. I just may have to pick this one up as it's little brother!

At that price you are almost stealing it as they usually go for$700 and up in that condition.

$500...in a heartbeat.... Get a nice set of period Target stocks to go with the TH and TT and that will be both a looker and a shooter...

$500 for an 18-3 in very good condition is a fair price and in excellent condition would be a good price. The S&W emblem does not show up well in your photos, looking a little weak or shallow, making me wonder if it has been refinished?

Walk away from it....straight to your computer where you will pm me the contact information so I can relieve them of the troubles of owning such a critter!! :)

I'd jump on it with no hesitation. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I'm buying it and will try to locate and install a correct set of factory grips. Those that are on it really bug me.

If it were me it would have come home with me no doubt.
For 500 who cares what grips are on it ?
You can find period correct grips easy enough. But you'll
not find an 18 for a lower price in that condition.
The finish looks good and correct as well.

I'd have hurt my risk jerking my wallet out and it would be sitting on my desk as we speak

Ok, I bought it. Now I just have to find a nice set of correct grips. If anyone has a set, please let me know.

Thanks for all the info everyone!

Original grips for that gun should be easy to find. Standard K-frame Magnas, non-diamond. Keep your eyes in the classifieds here. They pop up pretty regularly. Nice gun! :)
