Model 18-4

Scottly,

Don't wanna be a spoilsport...first off and most important: If you were happy with the re-sale good for you.

Many of us with several S&W's in our collection love our .22's and the prices just seem to keep rising all the time.

The Beretta 92 doesn't excite me at all as it is a mass produced gun that is far from my favorite 9mm. For 9mm i shoot an original Colt MKIV Series 70 made when they still remembered how to polish and blue.

You'd be wise to keep your eyes open for another S&W 4" Mod. 17 (VERY hard to find) M18 or 4" 627. They are great K frame guns and you can shoot all day for peanuts without chasing brass if you reload- and also train anyone with the .22 load.

Just my two cents. -mog

If the polishing and hard chroming was done by a top company-as it seems it may have been- the price alone for that work would have been at least $400-$500 for the frame, cylinder and small parts. As you said you could not see any blue, somebody worked pretty hard and throughly to achieve the result.

Personally, i'd love to have a hard chrome S&W .22lr as I shoot all my guns (incl my 99% 3.5" barrelled Mod. 27-2)

But, as i said, you're the judge. Hope you find some nice Smiths to start your collection!

I just bought an 18-7 in NIB condition and it shoots great. Wish it had been an 18-4 or earlier. However, this one is not going away, as I will be keeping it. Hope you like your 92, I have one. Paid $225 for it from the local Sherriff's Dept when they switched to Glocks........sits in the gun safe....not my cup of tea.

I have a nickel 18.......It was blue.....Back in the 70's my friend sent it back to Smith and they nickeled it. Has blue extractor and R-N stamped into the grip frame...Came with smooth rosewood target stocks...I added RR front/WO rear and target hammer & ranger trigger....I swapped a Colt LW commander even up for it during a rabbit hunt..We unbuckled holsters & swapped right there out in the woods.
