Model 18 vs. Model 17

Apparently my memory is failing me. I could've sworn the 617 was an L Frame. Oh well. Like the other poster said, the full underlug barrel makes it heavier.

If I want a stainless .22 I will stick with my 4" 63.

Just a sidenote,
Except for some older 5 screw model 34's with "I" frames.

The Model 34 and Model 63 are actually "J" frame guns.
They were available with round or square butts.

I have never owned a 4 inch K-22/Model 18, but would like to acquire one. I have two other 4 inch 22's, one a 22-32 Kit gun (1938) on the previously mentioned 'I' frame and a Model 63 4 inch round butt, 'J' frame. My others are all 6 inch of various vintage. The 6 inch 'K' frame is hard to beat as an accurate, reliable shooter. I would love to own or just shoot a 617 (K frame) in that I too prefer a muzzle heavy handgun and imagine it is a tack driver.

Can't really go wrong with any Smith 22 revolver, regardless of your model preference.

model 17

I have 17-6 4" fast draw front sight
