Just bought a model 18 to go with my mod 15. What a nice gun! It sure is fun. What years did they make them? Any one else like them?

My model 18-2 was my first S&W, purchased new in 1965 for the princely sum of $66.60! I used it for bullseye competition in the 1960's and 1970's and endless rounds of plinking since then. It's also been my go-to gun for introducing friends and family to handgun shooting.

It's never malfunctioned or required any repairs and I expect it will someday be in my estate, but not anytime soon!

:)I have a model 17 and 18, and I don't know which I
like the best. MMMMM I wish all my problems were so
much fun. Don :D:D

I have a 6" 17-3 and absolutely love it. It's getting shot alot with the high ammo prices and has improved my shooting.

Is your 18 a 4"? Would love to own one as my buddy will not sell me his.

Can't help you with the date, but the experts can.

I'm no expert, but I do have a copy of SCSW3 handy, which says: 1949 through 1985 (at which time it was replaced by the M17 4"). Here's my sole remaining example:

Yeah, I guess they're not too bad (...as he ducks for cover). -S2

I certainly like mine. Lately I've been using it to improve my shooting, as a previous poster indicated also. Trigger pull is outstanding. It is helping me correct a nasty habit of lowering my arms as I fire to counteract recoil(dumb). Soon I'll return to the .357s and expect to shoot them better.

I also have a 17 with jaw-dropping accuracy.

I recently got a M18 to go with my M15. I had an 18 about 30 years ago and traded it off. Dumb!

I decided to correct my error because of the cost and sporadic availability of centerfire ammo and reloading components. I can once again shoot alot of .22 ammo and the practice effect will carry over to my .38 almost 100%. You can even get HKS speed loaders for the M18.

Need the serial # to give you an approximate year of your Model 18

The 18 has been reintroduced, along with the 17.I've seen 17s,yet to see the new 18.

M18

Congratulations on the " K-22 Combat Masterpiece" AKA Model 18.

The M18 is Fun, Accurate and being so cheap to shoot makes a perfect trainer for bigger calibers...............probably my favorite Smith Handgun.

Yes they are back in production, The front sites have changed a bit and of course there is an internal lock,
At an MSRP of $1011.00 they have gone up a bit from the $66 dollars HKSmith originally paid.

Here is a link to Smiths web page that shows their classic line of revolvers including the M18.

Personally nothing fits my hand or looks as good as original target grips,
But for sheer beauty I like diamond magnas.
Just For fun look at the grips that come with the new classic model 27 and 58 as well as the old style on the Model .22 while in there.
Now imagine them on the Model 18...
Enjoy that handgun and post some pictures!

They do make a nice pair! My M-18 is a bit cranky and dosent shoot near as well as my M-17's but I like her anyway. Nice find!
