Hello
I purchased a really nice condition Model 19-3 recently. The Serial starts with “K8977xx”. Anyone have an idea of the manufacture date? The revolver was well taken care of and must have had a trigger job because in single action mode you could breathe on it and it will fire. Also the trigger is one of the really thin smooth triggers that I may find a vintage target trigger to replace it with. Anyway thanks for any responses.

Welcome back to the Forum! IMO, the Combat Magnum/Model 19 has always been one of S&W's most outstanding revolvers. The fit and finish is usually VG, and they have a very smooth action. Rumor has it that S&W released the Combat Magnum (later named the Model 19 in 1957) to compete with Colt's Python. Yours is a P&R (pinned barrel and recessed cylinder holes), which many Forum members prefer (P&R was discontinued with the 19-5). The trigger job may or may not affect the value...but obviously you have to be careful when shooting single action. You didn't mention the barrel length (4", 6"), or whether it's blued or nickel. We always appreciate pictures, so if you could post a couple that would be great. I only own one Model 19-3...it's part of my 1973 Texas Ranger Commemorative set. I think that it's one of the finest revolvers ever produced by S&W, and one of my favorites. Enjoy!

JP@AK that’s the best news I have heard and was crossing my fingers because that was my birth year. Thank you.
Hawg Rider yes indeed I am familiar with the fact that by the time S&W went to the 19-5 they changed the design and got rid of the pinned and recessed part of the 19s. Shame really. And also the bluing is vastly different back then as opposed to now. I love the older glass like bluing.
And yes to answer the question it is a 4 inch barrel (pic attached). I just love these classic combat magnums. The only wear is really the end of the barrel from holster wear due to it most likely being owned by a police officer but it was well taken care of. Thanks for responding.IMG_0028.jpeg
