Over the weekend, I went to the range, mostly to shoot my 2020 Python, but on a whim I took along my Model 19-9, and tossed in an extra box of 357 reloads.

After shooting the Python, I pulled the 19-9 out of the case and proceeded to remind myself why I like that gun. I know a lot of people don't like the MIM, the two piece barrel, and of course the lock, but let me tell you, I really like this gun.

I think it's nice looking for one thing. No, it's not the same as the old blue, but it's still darn nice looking. The grip is a little too narrow for me when shooting full on magnum loads, but with the moderate stuff I was shooting, no problem. Out of the box, the gun had as smooth as trigger as most any gun I've ever owned.

How does it shoot? Well, I'm not a great shot, I freely admit that, but darn it, I shot it pretty well. It made me look pretty decent for a change. I'm sorry I didn't think to take a picture of the target before it went into the trash can.

I love the old guns, but I think this one is a worthy successor.

CajunBass , the S&W model 19 is an all time favorite with me . I only have the older models , a 4" (nickel )and 2 1/2" (blued) version . I had the 6" and foolishly sold it . I have always said that for the size ,weight and the power they can deliver , the K-frame 357 is the ultimate revolver . I have given some thought to getting one of the new ones . Regards, Paul

I'll say that I think the barrel and shroud system on the 19-9 is a better idea. No more thin spot on the barrel to crack. I think if someone is looking for a Model 19/66 for shooting, they should seriously consider the new K-frame classics. As for the MIM parts, I think the issues with MIM have been worked out long ago, MIM fire control parts do result in a smoother trigger and a consistent trigger from one gun to another. If I were to take up carrying a K-frame 357, it would not be my old 19-3, it would be a new K-frame classic.
