Model 19 no dash help needed.

Picked up a very clean model 19 recently. Standard trigger standard Hammer does have Target grips. This is one of the cleanest old revolvers I have seen in my area. Looks like very little usage.
One major weakness, initials were engraved on this gun. Serial number starts with 4 2 2 XXX. Dates to about 1960. This is a 4 screw.
So for my reference in the future, I paid 530 out the door. How bad of a hit does the Engraving of initials do to value? I know if nothing else I have a near New 1960 revolver so my feelings are not hurt. But I am trying to learn on the damage that engraving does. Did not come with box or any other item.

That "embellishment" would be a deal breaker for me. Collector value definitely takes a hit, but you have a nice shooter.

Figured gun was maybe a gift? Who knows? Gun is so tight that I returned for it after several hours. I almost walked because of the Engraving. But decided it is such a classic weapon that I should take it for its shooting value.
Just hard for me to beat on this gun and consider it a typical shooter because of the rest of the condition.

Was your intent to buy a collectible or a shooter

For shooters, I do not care if initials are engraved on it.

After all it is a tool, not a collectible.

I have a Colt Python that had that issue. I could care less

5-10-20 years down the road when you go to sell the Model 19, it will sell for more than you paid for it as long as you take care of it.

Does it really matter how much you make 10 or more years from now

Enjoy what you have and stop counting future dollars

If I were you, I would get some Oxpho-blue from Brownells and at least make that engraving less noticeable. Otherwise, nice piece. I would have paid $530 in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the info. Again just trying to reference what a personalized engraving does to a gun value. First time I have encountered it and I am not a big collector. Have a lot more Sig's than I do Smith & Wesson's.
And like most of us here, I never want to buy upside down in any gun.
For reference, my first gun I ever owned was a model 57 police turn in. It has some bluing damage on the side but has always been a great shooter. Have had that gun for closing in on 40 years now.

$530 is a darn good price for a shooter. Heck, the grips are $100.
The initials add a bit of mystery.

Without the box and docs, and not being a rare model you were buying a shooter anyway. The engraving wouldn't bother me one wit - at least it was professionally and tastefully done, not like they did it with a vibra-graver. You got it for an excellent price, just enjoy it.

I agree, the engraving is neatly done, maybe by a jeweler's or trophy maker's pantograph. Enjoy. Make up a story about the previous owner.

(Now if it had been scratched in with an electric pencil, opinions would differ.)

Kind of my thoughts! would definitely limit the market. Are your initials ... then this gun has your name on it.

Interesting take, but would like to know more on your opinion. I am aware of the Engraving. For a nearly 60 year old weapon to be very tight and hardly used is also notable. Just curious, do you accept no wear on your weapons?

Here is a '57 Combat Magnum I paid $480 last year.

Wear is one thing. Defacing with initials is another.

Would I have bought yours.. No.. I'd keep looking.. your asking about value hit.. resale would be tough.
