I pressed up some .45 Auto Rim rounds last week. First time handloading that variation for me, and the dies required some minute adjustment for the belling since I was loading Laser Cast 230 gr. round nose slugs and also some adjustment was needed for the crimping stage as the dies were previously set up for loading FMJ hardball in .45 ACP brass.

I decided to do the old "plunk test" to make sure that I had the dies adjusted properly for easy chambering. I had these two Model 1950 .45 variants out for the chambering test since I plan on shooting the .45 Auto Rim rounds in them and thought they deserved a photo together. Hopefully they will perform well with the AR round and a good hard cast bullet like the Laser Casts from Oregon Trail Bullet Co. If not I can always go back to .45 ACP and half or full moon clips.

Looks great. I have a 1950 Military as well and just acquired a Mark V Webley that has had the cylinder cut to take .45 Auto Rim.

The Webley has a .454 bore, so I'm going to try using a .45 Colt projectile. I have a .45 ACP roll crimp die for these. These loads may also be good in a Smith with oversized throats.

Brian Pearce wrote a comprehensive article for handloader magazine last year on .45 auto rim. Lots of interesting load combinations.
