Model 21-4 Thunder Ranch in .44 Special (Question)

Ok,

(Question) Wall any 3 screw N Frame side plate fit this revolver?

(Question) What front sight would fit? Looking to put on a night sight of some sort.

Broke down and purchased one of these today. Should get some time next week. I think Thunder ranch is a nice place and has been good to the firearms industry and sport. But, hey, that is a lot of gaudiness with that gold logo. was thinking of putting a new side plate on it and of course, a night sigt.

Don't know much about it except that is done with CNC, so another side plate might fit. I'm sure someone here will know. The stocks look kike Ahrends. Nice.

I thought the side plates were swaged to fit prior to polishing? That is how the tight seam was created.

Front sights are available lots places and from Smith. I replaced the that little round sight on mine with a patridge style.

In the past, side plates were swaged into place, then polished flush. Not sure if that is still the procedure.

I have a 21-4 as well. I really like the gun....except for the Thunder Ranch decal. A couple of years ago I sent in to S&W and asked them to replace the side plate. I also had an action job done on it. Seemed to remember paying $350 or so. They didn't replace the side plate, but they did remove the decal. Don't know how they did it. But, it looks great. No side plate replacement needed!!

I’ve got the 21-4 & 22-4 TR’s. While I’ve never met Clint Smith, I believe he would probably agree with your assessment (as my 22-4 only has the Thunder Ranch logo on the grips). In addition to the firearms industry, he has also been good to LE.

I had one and I just put a set of Pachmayr's on it. Covered over most of the "Thunder Chicken."

This is all good news and thank you. I think I will send to Smith and have them do the logo stripping and an action job. Sounds like a good plan.

Those 21-4's fall in the other forum. This one is for S&W Revolvers made prior to 1980.

21-4 revolver is available WITHOUT that logo!

Frequently the 21-4 comes up for sale WITHOUT that logo...keep your eyes open and you may find one that you don't have to replace side plate...
