Hi

Just got back into shooting after years off. Tried old moon clips with my S&W Model25-5 just to have another option for my .45 ACP cartridges.

I have moon clips from more than one different supplier and none of them will clear the frame in order to close the cylinder and fire the weapon.

It was suggested that I return the cases since they might be at fault. The ACPs are loaded into at least three different brands of .45 cases.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

The 25-5 as it came from the factory will not chamber the .45 ACP with moon clips or half moon clips. There is not enough clearance between the rear of the cylinder and the frame. You have it confused with the 25-2. The 25-5 can be modified to use both rounds but the rear of the cylinder has to be machined.

You need to shoot .45ACP in a revolver that is chambered for that cartridge. You CAN'T SHOOT THEM in a revolver chambered for .45Colt..........

light loads for 45LC (25-5)

I don't know if anyone has had luck with a light load in a 45LC case. Huge... I've tried some with 8gr of Unique and 185gr cast SWC... too light of a load... black on outside of case. Up to 8.5...about the same... 9gr a bit better and 10gr of Unique wasn't too bad. But starting to feel like a full bore load.

I've fired 4gr of Bullseye but with very erratic results... anyone got a load for Bullseye or Unique.. especially for the 185gr bullet?

Regards

200gn Cast SWC or RN, w/ 6.0gn Trail Boss, Fed 150, and a 45LC case...
High volume powder almost fills the case, consistent results...

Trail Boss is the best powder for those old black powder cases. I use it with lead and plated bullets in 38 Special, 44 Special, 45 Colt, 38-40 and 44-40.

You could get the cylinder cut for moon clips and it will work with both at that point.
But I would put that money towards the purchase if a 25-2 instead.

anyone got a load for Bullseye

My standand target load for .45 Colt is 6.0 grains Bullseye using a .452 plated Berry's bullet. Roll crimped firmly into the bullet side, without cuttng through the plating. OAL 1.603". Around 800 fps from a 6" barrel and a tight gun.

Very accurate.
