Model 25-5

Just became the proud owner of a 6 inch Model 25-5 .45 Colt. The serial number starts with N828 so I am guessing it is a 1980-83 manufacture date? I am seriously considering sending it to Pinnacle Performance to have it converted to moon clips so I can use .45 ACP and .460 Rowland in the same gun.

My 6" 25-5 is a little younger than yours.
The 45 Colt can be very accurate.

With the long cylinder the 45 acp may not give you the best accuracy, and the 25-5 probably isn't strong enough for a lot of 460 Roland.

If it were mine, I leave it alone and buy other guns for different power levels.

Have a Sig 1911 with the Clark conversion for most of the Rowland shooting but will use the 25 occaisionally while hunting. Lots of ACP hanging around so I plan to shoot the hell out of this one.

I recently purchased a 25-5 and was thinking of the same treatment. I hate to change it though on the fact it would alter the collector value of it. I am fond of the S&W being original. I am torn between the two options......

I will let you know how it performs when it comes back. I spoke to Mark and he said he should be able to get it back pretty quickly since he was doing them now. I am now searching for a good leather cross-draw holster to carry it hunting

Mine is just like yours, but has a round butt, 3" barrel and Mag-Na-Porting.

I would like to be able to shoot ACP, if the new cylinder doesn't diminish accuracy.

You could always find another cylinder to have the treatment done on that way you still have the original unaltered to retain value.

I use a Bianchi 111 Cyclone holster for my 629 which can be worn cross draw or on your right hip. It is a snug, high quality piece of leather-work. You could always find another cylinder to have the treatment done on that way you still have the original unaltered to retain value.

I have been on the lookout for another cylinder so I can have one done in acp but they seem to be few and far between. If I find one though, that is what I would prefer to do.

I thought about finding another cylinder but figured since I plan to keep it a long time it didn't matter. If for some reason I sell it I would probably find a new cylinder and offer it with both if it was a deal breaker

Most .45 ACP N frame cylinders are quite a bit shorter than the cylinders used in M-25-5 .45 Colt guns. Most of the length difference is on the front end of the cylinder (quite a bit more of the rear of the barrel extends into the cylinder opening in the frame) and the rear is shorter to allow for the extra room needed for moon clips.

A dual cylinder Smith & Wesson can be expensive to have put together.

I have a holster on order and now need to find some combat style grips. I don't really like the feel of the stock grips so where is the best place to get the wood finger groove combat grips for the square butt?

Hi folks, any news on how the cylinder cutting went? Also, having been offered a 25-5 in .45 Colt, could you get a spare cylinder in .45ACP which could be "Dropped in"

S/W 25-5

Boy I have a 25-5 and sure wish I could find a 3,4,o5 inch barrel.
I like the 45 Colt but the 8 3/8 barrel is to long fore me .
Any help?

I came across my 25-5 last year. A buddy of mine was in a tight spot and I was able to steal it from him. I told him he could get 3 or 4 times more, but he wanted me to have it.

I have always enjoyed Smith revolvers, but I can't afford most asking prices these days and N frames always seem to be out of reach.

This is by far my most favorite gun.

I think the 45 colt is a great round. I can reload plinkers or heavy hitters. I wouldn't change a thing.
