Shop has a blue 6.5 inch barrel model 26 no dash. Lots of scratches, muzzle wear, rubber grips. Tapered barrel in 45 acp. Is this a rare model? Worth 750 price? Can't find too much information about 26 no-dash model 26's.

It's rare, so any specimen (even worn) should be a good deal at $750. Perhaps someone here has one and will comment.

but the 26s not so much. But any Targets, other than .44MAGs, model marked are rare indeed.
If I remember correctly, there are less than a dozen-maybe even less, know to exsist of a Model 26. (Buy it and have a gunsmith check it for function.) I'd buy it before someone else does or word gets out.
What are your intentions? It will probably be a good shooter if that's your intention. Have Fun whatever you do...dan

S&W company historian Roy Jinks' book History Of Smith & Wesson says that there were only 2,768 .45 1950 Targets made, which includes pre -26, 26, 26-1 and 26-2.
If you have any use for a .45 ACP revolver (and what shooter doesn't?), this would be a good one to get.

I have a pre 26. Very happy to have it in my collection, haven't seen one since I purchased it and that was a long time ago.

Is it actually model marked or does the store have it marked 26 on the price tag? Not that anyone is trying to be dishonest, just that a lot of gun stores aren't real savvy about rare and collectable guns. This might be the case as they are advertising a "Model 26" and only want $750. It may be a pre 26. For your sake I hope it is a 26 and you are able to purchase it. Good luck!

I've got two of them. 
Years back I picked up, held and put down one of the original 15 factory nickle 17's because I thought the price of $495 was a tad high. I think it now resides in Texas and I now know what I let slip through my fingers

I've never actually laid eyes on a 26 no dash in person.
I had a Model 24, S193579 (see old photo below), and a Model 26, S193601, in my collection for several years. They are pictured in the SCSW on pages 190 and 194, respectively. They are extremely rare guns. I have seen a couple of other Model 24s, but no 26s.

Hi Doc, the no dash 24 is a grail gun for me. Like another poster said, the shops will call a pre-model the model itself. I'd like to think it's just that they don't know the differance. Oh, by the way...got the app in the mail Wed. It's on the way to Kansas. Thx, Lee (the other Lee)

Just buy it. If it turns out you don't want it, you will have zero difficulty selling it to someone here.

I saw 4 or 5 pre 26s at Tulsa this fall, in varied condition. Asking price was $1,700.00 and up and up.I can't imagine what a model marked one would bring.

Well I guess I made a good decision
I just acquired my first pre-26 1950 target, and can't wait for it to arrive. As soon as I get it, I'm going to get a factory letter and hope the grips are original. I'm guessing by the conversation above, I didn't overpay, especially since I plan to have it for a looooong time.

A beautifull gun, and there were several in that batch that caught my eye as well, there was an early 38/44 that belonged to a Dr and had his name engraved and gold filled on the sideplate, gorgeous one and all. There was an RM that went for 9500. in the original box. Wow! Billy
My not model marked, Pre-? 1950 Army, Bought at Boise this year, I like it....
