I don't know the correct terminology but I have two 5 screw Model 27 revolvers. Both are nice but show some wear. Both have the 3.25" barrel. On one, there is a pin that protrudes from the bottom of the barrel lug. On the other, the pin is there but does not protrude. Both seem to function correctly. Do I have a problem?

Thanks

Model 27 pin

The pin is spring loaded and pushes against the end of the cylinder rod. On most the pics I have seen of Model 27s, it protrudes but on this gun it doesn't.

Are you sure that the latch is in it? If it is - it is one of two things, #1 It is dirty - Packed, #2 the spring has broke. I am betting that it is #1 :D .

Sounds to me as if the gun is totally useless, and should be shipped to me immediately! Seriously though, it doesn't sound like much of an issue. I'd just clean it well, tap the pin back with a nylon rod or brass drift punch, and enjoy!

The "pin" that doesn't protrude is the tang of the locking bolt. Don't you just love it when so many give you advice and haven't understood the question!! The length of the tang is not critical, it just stabilizes the locking bolt. I have guns all the way from barely reaches the front of the barrel lug to sticks out 1/8". So long as the locking bolt is there and functions properly everything is OK, don't worry about it.

It is possible the tang has broken off the locking bolt. If this is the case you won't be able to see it when looking straight at the front of the barrel lug. It should protrude, at least a little, when the thumbpiece is pushed forward. If it is broken, not likely, then the locking bolt should be replaced.

Protruding Pin

Thanks for your help! Sometimes it is hard to know what to be concerned about. I can see the pin in the barrel lug so I am probably OK. Thanks again for taking the time to give me peace of mind!
